Keep Those Fly Screens Handy
By Nancy Bertolo
Fly screens can do so much more than keeping flies out of our horses eyes. So rinse them off, dry them out and keep them handy! Consider these uses …
- Fly Screens protect the eyes from dust and flying debris on windy days
- Excellent protection against shavings and dust while trailering your horse.
- Fly screens reduce exposure to UV rays when out in the direct sun.
- Fly screens also help to reduce the risk of sunburn. Some longer designs cover the entire face.
- Like sunglassses, fly screens provide shade to the eyes.
- Horses with moon blindness should be adorned with a fly screen anytime the sun is bright, as sunshine causes discomfort for these horses.
- A fly screen on a site impaired or blind horse allows him to feel things before he bumps into them. There are some newer designs available now that are more rigid than most and these are very useful for blind horses.
